IPOH: An elderly woman was killed when the car she was in crashed into the back of a trailer at KM334 northbound on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Tapah.

Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said Ng Gim Chuang, 81, from Taman Desa Damai in Penang, died while being treated at Hospital Tapah's emergency unit after the 6.30am Friday (Feb 17) accident.

"The victim sustained serious injuries.

"She was pronounced dead at about 8.15am and her body has been sent to the hospital’s forensics unit for post-mortem," he said when contacted.

"Her family members have been informed."

Supt Wan Azharuddin said the driver of the trailer, which was transporting auto spare parts from Johor to Padang Besar in Perlis, lost control and crashed into the middle divider of the expressway an hour before the incident.

"The car, driven by the victim's 63-year-old son-in-law, hit some road cones, spun out of control and slammed into the back of the trailer.

"The son-in-law was uninjured while his 55-year-old wife was hurt on the forehead.

"The 42-year-old trailer driver and his 38-year-old attendant were also unharmed," he added.

Supt Wan Azharuddin said the matter is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

He said no arrests were made and anyone with information on the incident should contact Insp P. Prathiparaj at 014-617 8095.
